Ayurvedic skincare is full of anti-aging products which have specific ingredients designed to nourish your skin and promote overall youthfulness. We have been harnessing these secrets for years, so why stop when it comes to moisturising? In this article, we will be looking at the difference between serum and cream, and why adding a brand-new serum to your skincare routine is a must for 2023.

Facial Serum vs. Facial Moisturiser: What's the Difference?

Before we determine whether a facial serum or moisturiser is the correct product for you, let’s talk about the difference. A serum is a much lighter alternative to moisturiser which will typically mean that the ingredients present will be delivered much quicker to your skin. After cleansing your face, we recommend applying a thin layer of serum, as your next step. Serums are intended to penetrate our skin deeply and deliver targeted results using active ingredients.

However, should you be using a serum in place of a moisturiser? Whilst these product types appear to do a similar job, they actually help our skin in two very different ways. A serum usually has much smaller molecules, which when combined together create a higher concentration of ingredients. These are designed to penetrate the skin, which can improve and nourish us. Whereas, a moisturiser’s primary purpose is to hydrate and prevent further water loss - so, in short, we would suggest using both.

Can Your Skin Benefit From Both A Facial Serum & Moisturiser?

Yes - your skin can benefit from consistently using both a facial serum and a moisturiser. As these products typically have different purposes, they cannot replace one another. In terms of your ayurvedic skincare,  we would recommend applying the serum before your moisturiser. When it comes to what works for you, it’s important to truly understand your skin type - at the end of the day, who knows you better than yourself?

However, as a general rule of thumb, try using face nourishes such as serums, oils, and of course, moisturisers, starting with the lightest formula first. As mentioned before, serums are thin and full of active ingredients, and you will drive these results directly to your pores. This becomes slightly trickier if you are using heavier, or more ‘full-bodied’ creams prior.

Your New & Improved Ayurvedic Skincare Routine

As the new year rolls around, you may be thinking about improving your skincare routine. If you already follow the Ayurvedic teachings, then you will already be aware of the three simple beliefs surrounding how you should treat your skin. These three rules are super easy to follow and will keep your skin glowing year-round.

1. Cleanse Your Skin

Firstly, always cleanse your skin - Our Supreme Skin Cleansing Oil can help you do just that. To use, simply apply 4-6 pumps of Supreme Skin Cleansing Oil to your palms and then onto your face and neck, gently massaging upwards and outwards; finishing around the eyes.

Afterward, we would recommend immersing our pure muslin cloth in hot water, wringing it, and then placing it against the face for a few moments to create a mild steam and activate the oil. Finally, using the cloth, wipe away all traces of makeup and congestion and repeat if desired. Finish by splashing the skin with water and finally, pat dry with a clean towel.

2. Exfoliation Is Key

To draw out impurities, diminish pigmentation, and soothe the appearance of fine lines, we suggest exfoliating two to three times a week. This will ensure your skin looks tighter, and brighter and feels powder soft. To get this much-wanted glow, use our Ayurvedic Exfoliant in 2023.

To use:

  1. Mix one spoon with water, rose water or your daily cleanser
  2. Then, massage over the wet face and neck; rinse and pat dry.

Or, for a weekly deeply detoxing face mask:

  1. Mix 2-3 spoons with water to form a thick paste.
  2. Apply to the face and neck and leave to dry. Wash off using our muslin cloth or just water.

3. Moisturiser is Your Best Friend

Moisturiser truly is your best friend - and that includes serum. It can feed and plump parched skin and with our nutrient-rich formula, you can harness the complexion-correcting properties of brightening vitamins, balancing minerals, nourishing omegas, and strengthening antioxidants.

To use our Supreme Skin Face Serum, simply:

  1. Blend a few drops between your palms and take a moment to soothe the senses as you inhale the intoxicating scent.
  2. Then, apply to a clean face and neckline using upward strokes.
  3. Use Supreme Skin Face Serum morning and night or mix it with your daily moisturiser to supercharge your skincare routine and reveal a dewy complexion.
