Our gratitude forour Friends & Family | Mauli Rituals

The journey to creating Mauli was enriched by the positive energy and unwavering support of friends and family and it is with deep gratitude, we celebrate them here.

From dark to light is the definition of a ‘Guru’ and for me that man is my father. He studied Ayurveda at the University of Banaras and later built a thriving practice in England. Feeling duty bound to serve his community, my father moved into journalism and in doing so gave Asian migrants a much needed link to their homeland. Ahead of his time, he published the first all-Hindi weekly newspaper in the UK, which delivered a synopsis of India’s main news stories. 45 years on, my father has retired but only in a manner of speaking. He now fundraises and enjoys deepening his knowledge of Ayurveda, meditation, yoga and offering us sage advice. Mauli is imbued with my father's love, wisdom and vast experience.

Nick-named ‘samosa boy’ for his love of Indian food, our first photographer Alastair, also happened to be my brother-in-law and shot our very first Mauli shots - many that we still use now.

I met the divine Claire Sutton in South Africa, through a chance encounter that lead to her to being a major part of my travel book for Thames & Hudson. Claire, Bittu, Antonia (photographer) and my little ones spend two magical weeks together on safari in Namibia and walking golden sandy beaches in Mauritius.  As luck would have it, Claire ended up moving to London and I found myself in the lovely position of becoming a sort of Aunty figure to her It's been a joy to watch her grow from chasing butterflies with the children to being the most elegant bride and exceptional photographer.  Claire took our vision to another level and I'm forever grateful for her ethereal shots.

Tom William Chapman shot the magical shots of Bittu and I that you see on the site now.  I met Tom through Katie Service and the pair work together bringing heart and soul to all they do.  Our most recent shots have been taken by the Tom and styled by Katie and not only are they simply beautiful; equally important, the pair were a joy to work with.

Finally, huge shout out to Sam Beason who is responsible for our clean cut out shots.  Not as easy as it looks.  Sam really cares to get the job done and sometimes working weekends to meet our deadlines.  We're looking to working with Sam for years to come and he is well and truly a part of the Mauli family.

Our son Marni guides our values and attitude to mind and body, inspiring us to consider the wellbeing of future generations. In leading by example, we hope he will know that self-care rituals are not an indulgence, treat or vanity, they are as much a part of wellness as exercise and meditation. His thoughtful nature and positive energy are a constant source of inspiration. In Mauli, we hope to honour our son's future and the memory of our magnificient daughter Milli's past. By raising £1m for children's charities, we aim to spread and keep Milli's goodness, love and light living on.

Archana is the Head of our partner NGO in India. She is responsible for the exceptional quality of many elements of Mauli, for gathering rose petals from temples in North India and more. Her commitment to empowering the village women of India and to developing natural products is unwavering. Everything we offer you from her team comes with the devotion of many who you will never know, but who also share a wish for your wellbeing.

My beautiful mother has dementia but this only amplifies her mantra of 'just be love'.  The most giving, gracious and strong women I have ever know, her skin is proof enough that nourishing oils and a big heart create beauty that goes beyond skin deep.

I met Vicki and her team buzzing with ideas and they had the tricky task of distilling my thoughts into a coherent thread. They held my hand, but never once forced it and in this way, their design integrity and my values merged. As I got to know Vicki, I discovered she had left a very successful design agency at the top of her game to go it alone. Starting out alone from a desk in her home, she soon moved to offices and expanded to a team of ten. Her decision to set up Nalla was made in honour of one she loved, lost and held so dear and here was the thread that connected us. I hope when you see our brand design, you see not just our values, but Vicki's commitment and passion.

Brother and sister team Paul and Christina are calm, creative wonders.  The phrase, "don't sweat the small stuff" must have been written for Paul; he is our super-chilled web developer and makes our lives lighter and brighter. Each request is greeted with enthusiasm and even if he is not sure something can be done, he will give it go and as if by magic, it's done. His email sign-off is 'big hugs' and I hope you can feel his happy vibes as we have felt during the building of our site.  I have known Christina for so long that I can't even recall how we met.  All I know is, she is a beautiful energy and I enjoy our time together. I am not one for selfies, so on the rare occasion I need a portrait shot, Christina is my go-to.  You may know her from her whimsical 'I love gorgeous' work but there is so much more.  You can see the portraits she took of us on our 'journey' page and much more on her site.

I first met Phyllis when working on FamilyLifeStyle. Phyllis is the mother of three beautiful boys and the author of the 'XS' series of books on small buildings, published by Thames and Hudson. She is currently working on a book about houses and literature with Unbound, and teaches English at Goldsmiths, University of London. Beyond all this, Phyllis is a selfless and modest women. I am humbled by her presence in my life and if you feel a connection to my words it is because Phyllis has checked them and given clarity.

Mentor and friend Berni is a formidable force, with a wealth of experience in Spa and Retail Operations, who just sweeps in and gets things done. From the moment I first met her in a swanky office in Knightsbridge to our casual business catch-up's in Kensal Rise, she remains the same. No-nonsense, friendly and always ready to give it her all. We rely on Berni for sound advice and for simply putting things into perspective. Above all, we adore Berni for her big, beautiful, brave heart and it is an privilege to have her be part of Mauli.

Mauli has grown beyond our initial words and values thanks to a formidable core team and we could not thrive without these passionate individuals.  Jocelynn is our Commercial Director; adored and respected by the team, she works without the need for airs and graces, mucking in to get the job done in her unflappable manner.  Fay is our sunshine girl and a PR force to be reckoned with. As well as making her exceptional results look easy, she is an IT wiz and delights in celebrating the small stuff; reminding us - it's all small stuff. Sam is our Ops dynamo. Having studied Psychotherapy, she had the courage to give up practising to travel around the world solo and returned to join us.  We are so much richer for having Sam's world view; which brings focus, calm and fun in equal measures. Claire is our Digital Marketing Manager and chic French yoga teacher. Her energy instantly makes us exhale and simply want to be kinder. The love and attention Claire puts into everything she does is with a sincere desire to deliver exceptional content, that truly does enrich the everyday.  Then there are our support teams of distributors and manufacturing.  We had to kiss a few frogs to find you, but you are all part of the Mauli family.  Not forgetting our brilliant interns who have come and gone through our doors and each one would be welcome back to work with us and will never be forgotten.  Thank you Merium, Farriah, Marg, Nina, Camille... you were were all delightful.

I met Chantal Lauren on the school run and we bonded immediately. We share a love of yoga, wellness, an appreciation of beauty in all things and above all, a wicked sense of humour. A Creative Consultant, Chantal has given invaluable input on every aspect of Mauli's creation. Gorgeous, authentic and open, she brings this beautiful energy to our collection.

In the early days of Mauli's conception, it was Fazia Chochrane who brought everything into balance. Mauli was and remains so dear to my heart that I sometimes struggled to stop and it was Fazia who would remind me to step back and make time for a different happy.

Grace Fodor and I have shared similar journeys in consulting and spending two years creating our collections. Grace launched Studio 10 ahead of Mauli and as such, she shared her knowledge. Three girls, a doting husband and a thriving business; Grace brings her boundless energy and resilience.

From the earliest days of Mauli and before Anka kept our house in order, tenderly loves our dog Star and supporting us with Mauli, when it was operating from the kitchen table. She is so positive, kind and understanding and we are immensely fortunate to have her continue to be part of this journey.

Emma Milroy for having been a brilliant Assistant to me over ten years ago and still being a constant support and the one who brings her verve and 'can do' attitude to Mauli. Tessa Williams for remaining part of my freelance support system since she first interviewed me in 2008. Lianna Soffe of Strategic Beauty, who I met at Ruby & Millie and who is a ray of light. During darker days, it was Lianna who turned up at my door with her baby and a bag of arts and crafts to amuse the children and an excel document to help me get my head around margins and distribution. Manmohan for his incredibly giving nature and supreme Ayurvedic knowledge and Michelle for her exceptional alchemist scenting touch. A fantastic consultant, who brings strength, dignity and warmth to Mauli. And to dear Friends Kelly and Nina for having shared every step of the journey. Poonam and Sarah for modelling and in doing so, bringing their true radiance to our shoot.
