Pollution, stress, a build-up of quick-fix styling products, age, thinning and greying, all impact on the quality of our hair and while this can be upsetting, it's never too late to take action. Just as we rely on daily moisturisers for soft skin, the people of India rely on nourishing oils to protect, maintain and help strengthen scalp and roots, resulting in the thick, glossy hair for which they are renowned.
Grow Strong treatment oil combines refined Ayurvedic elixirs to activate follicles at a cellular level helping to reconstruct, protect and deliver intense hydration. Expertly formulated in England, herbs of thickening bringraj, rejuvenating bhrami and conditioning amla are individually infused in a base of nutrient-rich moringa, flame of the forest, argan, sesame and coconut oils, which are then separately heated at various optimal temperatures, then cooled and reheated several times over six-eight weeks, to ensure the blend has time to mature, at which point soothing Himalayan cedarwood and turmeric leaf are added and further left to settle. The powerful ingredients and ancient blending method come together to offer lacklustre hair strength and vitality.
Amla/Indian Gooseberry. High in tannin compounds and one of the worlds most powerful antioxidants, alma has 20 times more concentrated vitamin C than an orange and infuses hair with nutrition that protect against environmental aggressors, whilst working to strengthen follicles and promote growth. An excellent natural conditioner, alma diminishes split ends, dryness and dandruff.
Bhringraj/Eclipta Alba – Known as the ‘King of Hair' for its rejuvenating properties, its protein packed extracts are used in Ayurveda to reduce premature greying and hair loss, whilst increasing strength, thickness and shine. Calming and conditioning; a little applied before bed should improve sleep patterns and reduce stress. In a study published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology in 2009, tests on mice determined that treatment with bhringaraj extract helped stimulate hair growth. Additionally, a 2008 study from the Archives of Dermatological Research found that bhringaraj extract was more effective than minoxidil (a substance commonly used in the treatment of hair loss) in promoting hair growth in rats.
Brahmi/Centella Asiatica - A regenerative herb that is said to aid concentration, calm the mind and rejuvenate hair. Rich in saponins and tannins, these powerful antioxidants are revered in Ayurveda for their ability to add moisture, thickness and gloss to hair, whilst eliminating dandruff, reducing split ends and slowing signs of premature greying and discolouration.
Moringa - With an impressive oleic acid content of 72%, moringa contains 47 potent antioxidants, 36 anti-inflammatory compounds, 18 essential amino acids, 7 x the vitamin C of an orange, 3 times the iron of an almond, 4 x the calcium of milk and twice as much vitamin A as found in a carrot. The incredible rejuvenating properties of this light, luxurious oil penetrate deeply into scalp and follicles so depleted minerals and vitamins can repair and revive naturally. When massaged regularly into the scalp and roots, moringa helps bring hair back into balance so it grows stronger, fuller and glossier.Flame Of the Forest - A superb shrub used to in Ayurveda to prevent hair loss, treat dandruff and add strength and shine.
For the ultimate night-time repair ritual, apply 2-3 drops along sections of brushed, parted hair and massage as if shampooing to cover roots and scalp, working oil through to ends. Once applied (you may wish to cover your pillow a towel), sleep well, wake and wash as normal. If you prefer, leave in for 2hrs, as that is sufficient time for the oil to penetrate and nourish scalp and roots and then wash as normal. Use twice weekly for the first six weeks (and on holiday, when hair can become particularly parched) and weekly thereafter. Regular treatment helps reduce premature thinning, adds thickness, softness and shine.
"A common Indian phrase is to 'do his/her Champi', which translates to stroking someone's ego and making them feel good. Practiced in Ayurveda and even featured in the Kama Sutra, Champi is in fact the term used for an Indian head massage. A good champi using superior oils helps relieve mental fatigue, enhance clarity and memory and balance emotion, as well as strengthening hair and scalp, leaving it super nourished. Champi someone you love with luxurious Grow Strong Hair Oil or have them Champi you; it feels good". Bittu Kaushal
"The ritual of a weekly head massage is part of life in India and indeed in West London! Growing up, I can remember my mother giving each of her seven children a nourishing oil treatment. I loved the utterly relaxing feel; the good nights sleep that followed and the condition of my hair, once washed. Beyond this, my mother knew that healthier hair depended on a well-conditioned scalp, which would also reduce stress, calm blood pressure and serves as a good antidote to a nagging headache. I now apply Grow Strong on my son and cherish the ritual of nurturing him physically and emotionally through this practice" Anita Kaushal.
"I have coloured hair which has lost its dullness from the processing chemicals. I used this oil on my hair as per the directions once and hair was left feeling light and so shiny that I was stopped in the street my a lady asking how I got my hair shiny. My work colleagues commented on the shine also as I walked into the office. I have tried many oils over the years and this one is far the best and money well spent." Yasmin Zaffar
"I applied Grow Strong and slept like a lamb. A friend visited the next day and one of the first things she commented on was how glossy and healthy my hair looked". Linda Middleditch
