What are Himalayan bath salts?

Millions of years ago, where the Himalayan mountains now stand, was once a pristine and thriving sea. As the tectonic plates shifted over time, the ground beneath this ocean was forced upwards causing the seawater to evaporate underneath the burning sun. Left behind was the sea's life-sustaining minerals and sodium which eventually formed beautiful pink salt crystals. Buried under metres of thick lava from the volcanoes and snow from the ice ages, the Himalayan salt sat perfectly preserved, untouched by today’s pollution. Whilst this beautifully pure salt most commonly comes in a light shade of pink, Himalayan salt can also be seen in different colours such as white and orange. The colour of the salt depends on the number of trace minerals present such as iron, potassium and calcium. These crystals are now known as the purest form of natural sea salt to ever be produced.

How to use Himalayan salt

Himalayan salt can be incorporated into your wellbeing ritual in many ways, thanks to its mineral-rich properties and healing effect. Here are our three favourite ways to use Himalayan salts…

1. Himalayan salt foot soak

One of the many benefits of Himalayan salts is their ability to help the skin retain moisture, making it the perfect addition to your foot soak. Soothe dry, cracked heels and speed up the healing process of any blisters whilst you create an at-home-spa feel. Simply add ⅛ cup of salt for every gallon of water used, immerse your feet, take a deep breath… and relax.

    2. Himalaya salt bath

One of the most popular ways to reap the benefits of Himalayan salt is through a Himalayan salts bath. Most bath products only serve to clean your body, whilst simultaneously stripping your skin of all its minerals. A Himalayan salts bath, on the other hand, does quite the opposite. Pouring a handful of salts under the running water will allow the salt to dissolve and release all of its nourishing minerals into the water. As you take a 15-minute soak, your body will be released of its toxins whilst the salt replenishes your minerals and balances out your pH levels.

      3. Himalayan body scrub

The texture of Himalayan salt provides the perfect exfoliation for your skin. At Mauli we have created our Reawaken Himalayan Hand & Body Scrub using the mineral-rich crystals with the addition of nourishing organic oils such argan, coconut, moringa and vitamin E. Whilst taking your bath, gently massage your Himalayan salt scrub into your skin, lifting dead skin cells, increasing circulation, easing aches and pains, and absorbing all of the salts powerful minerals deep into your tissue. Simply rinse with water and admire your petal-soft skin.
