New Moon January 18: Uttarashadha Nakshatra, Capricorn
Exact degree 19:51pm UTC (7:51pm)
By Laura Plumb, Vedic Astrologer
January's New Moon is crowded with 5 planets in Capricorn all in the same nakshatra, so all in the same first 7,25 degrees if the constellation.
If you have Capricorn moon you might really feel the heat. It is a lot of energy on your mental, emotional body. Same is also true if Capricorn is your Ascendant, or Sun, though a bit less emotional, perhaps more physical, or at the soul level, respectively.
When the Moon is new, it is in close degree to the Sun. Any planet close to the sun by degree, is considered Combust. In this intance, not only the Moon, but also Mars, Mercury, and Venus are combust. Even Pluto is nearby, also currently in Uttarashadha Nakshatra. So the only planet here with strength is the Sun.
Planets are Devic energies, transmitting light from the sun and the stars. They are not here to harm, but to help us learn, grow and evolve. Find where Capricorn is in your natal chart, which house, which planets, to get an idea of which part of your body or life this is pushing on, pushing for more self-care, self-love, self-truth.
Uttara Shadha as a nakshatra of enduring victory, success that aligns with Dharma. Uttara Shadha is the nakshatra of perseverance, moral stamina, and ultimate triumph. It is symbolized by the elephant tusk, representing devotion, dignity, and unbreakable resolve (Ganesha broke off his tusk to use as a pen to continue writing the Mahabharata as it was dictated by Sage Vyasa).
It is ruled by the Sun, bringing authority, leadership, mastery, self-confidence, life vitality and truth, and guided by the Vishwadevas, universal guardians of cosmic order, goodness, and righteousness.
Uttara Shadha gives the energy to:
Not quit when things get difficult
Be willing to walk the long road of integrity
Achieve influence or recognition without compromising
Lead, not through force, but through inner steadiness and moral clarity
Gain mastery of the self
Endure, with unwavering determination, and moral authority
Be a leader rooted in service
Uttara Shadha is about standing tall at the end of the journey and knowing you did not betray yourself to get there.
Uttara Ashadha reminds us that true victory is not loud. It is earned slowly, through integrity, perseverance, and an unshakable commitment to what is right.
This is the nakshatra of enduring success - not the kind that flashes and fades, but the kind that stands the test of time because it was built authentically, upon your core values. Uttara Ashadha teaches us that when we stay aligned with dharma, when we do not quit on ourselves or our values, life resolves in integrity.
Uttarashadha gives moral stamina, quiet strength, the energy of the Sun. It helps you realize you are everything you need to be to live strong and vibrant.
Reflection Prompts:
-
Where in my life am I being asked to stay the course, rather than rush the outcome?
-
What does “enduring success” mean to me - beyond approval, applause, or productivity?
-
Where have I already shown more endurance than I give myself credit for?
-
What values am I unwilling to compromise?
-
How does my body feel when I choose integrity over urgency?
-
If victory were measured by integrity and consistency, rather than productivity and outer results, how might I live differently?
-
Where and what can I pare down, or simplify, in my life?
-
How can I keep remembering what is essential, what is necessary, and what is not? And how can I let that which is not, go with grace?
-
How do I remember the light within? And live humbly but powerfully from there?
* It is also a Shula Yoga, which is tricky. Last time we had that was January 3rd (US bombed Venezuala and removed Maduro).
** Ukraine has Capricorn rising, with Saturn in Uttarashada in the Ascendant. The Russian invasion began when Saturn was transiting Capricorn.
*** Best advice is to stay in and meditare or engage in creative hobbies, artisitic joys. Avoid crowds, and conflict.
