Where did Himalayan bath salts originate from?

Millions of years ago, when planet earth was a pristine ecosystem, a sea existed where the iconic Himalayan mountains now stand. The mountains formed around 40-50 million years ago due to tectonic plate movement when India collided with Eurasia. As the plates shifted they forced the ground up high into the sky, creating the Himalayas and causing the sea to evaporate. This meant the sea water’s life-sustaining minerals beautifully crystallised beneath the heat of the sun, forming Himalayan pink salt. Due to the uniqueness of the conditions in which the salt was made, it’s known to be the purest form of natural sea salt ever produced.

What is Himalayan salt made from?

Made up of two electrolytes, sodium and chloride, natural salt is one of the fundamental components for life, and needed in the diets of most living creatures we see today. When Himalayan salt dissolves in water, it creates a concentrated blend of 84 trace minerals that match those found in the human body. These traces can’t be found in commonly used refined, bleached and processed table salts.

Himalayan pink salt is rich in vital minerals including;

  • Zinc
  • Calcium
  • Copper
  • Iodine
  • Bicarbonate
  • Bromide
  • Iron
  • Magnesium
  • Potassium

… to name a few!

Himalayan salt is now mined in the foothills of the Himalaya mountains, primarily in Pakistan. The salt has been protected from modern-day pollution under metres of thick snow and lava from the volcanos and ice ages that have come before us. The purity of Himalayan salt makes this the perfect antidote from today’s pollution and daily stressors. This beautiful salt can also come in different colours including white, pink, and orange. The colour is determined by the number of trace minerals like potassium, iron and calcium that it contains.
